I have known John for more than 30 years. We did not hit it off immediately, but when we met at the home of a mutual friend in Mexico his sense of humor won me over. I went on to discover a man of many facets: an adventurer, by turns a mystic and a reveler, a conqueror of women's hearts himself conquered by the essence of the Maya people of Guatemala, whose soul is reflected in his images.

He would have made an amazing interior decorator. He knows how to transform a colonial ruin (Antigua Guatemala) or a Mexican beach into magical places, either to simply live in or as the setting for an unforgettable party. But he chose photography as the means of sharing his extraordinary vision of the world.

He has a remarkable knack for capturing fleeting instants of beauty and strength in his surroundings and he makes light into the co-conspirator of his genuine artistic talent.
