As a promoter of his country of adoption, Heaton has produced and led press trips for Vogue Paris, Harper's Bazaar, The Financial Times, Departures, and National Geographic Traveler, among others, and designs personalized, eco-cultural expeditions for an exclusive clientele to explore Guatemala by foot, 4x4, helicopter, boat, and horse. He was awarded the "50 Tours of a Lifetime” by National Geographic Traveler magazine in 2008. He was also the Central America correspondent for Travel + Leisure from 2007 to 2011.
